New book on “Social Informatics: Past, Present and Future”

We are very happy to announce publication of the book Social Informatics: Past, Present and Future, edited by SIG SI co-chairs Pnina Fichman and Howard Rosenbaum of the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing and the Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics.

The book is a collection of twelve chapters, many originating from SIG SI symposium papers, that provides a state-of-the-art review of 21st century social informatics. The chapters review the history and evolution of social informatics; provide a view of the breadth and depth of contemporary social informatics and the diversity of theoretical and methodological approaches; and project the future of social informatics through provocative and disparate visions of its trajectory. This book presents a view of SI that emphasizes the core relationship among people, ICT and organizational and social life from a perspective that integrate aspects of social theory and demonstrates clearly social informatics has never been a more necessary research endeavor than it is now. The editors feel it will be especially useful for graduate students and advanced undergraduate students interested in learning about social informatics research.
