The New ESC Board says: HELLO
Hi everybody,
Welcome from the new European Student Chapter board!
Thanks to Tamara and all others who were engaged in the last term of the ESC, you did a great job!
The elections are over and we are happy to have a highly motivated team working together in this period. The new board members are Agnes Mainka (chair), Evelyn Dröge (vice chair), Tamara Heck (secretary/treasurer) and Tomislav Jakopec (webmaster).
We just like to say hello and introduce ourselves to you.
Agnes Mainka:
“I’m a PhD Student at the Heinrich-Heine- University Düsseldorf in Germany. My research interests are informational world cities, which are typical cities of the knowledge society, social media and e-government. I work at our department as lecturer for web design, python programming and as adviser for master and bachelor research projects. I very like to travel, meet with friends and family, and love to play board games.
In my position as chair of the ESC I would like to bring the interest of doing own research closer to young students and keep the contact with other ASIST members in Europe and all over the world.”
Evelyn Dröge:
“Hi, I am Evelyn. I am a PhD student and researcher at the Berlin school of library and information science at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. I am mainly involved in the DM2E project where we are bringing new content to Europeana, the European digital library, and are working on new tools for people in the Digital Humanities. My research interests are ontologies and ontology mapping or Linked Data in general. I love spending time with my friends, reading, sports and to discover new places and new things to do.
As the new vice chair, I will support Agnes in involving new students and would like to facilitate the exchange of research ideas and results and strengthen the network of library and information science students.”
Tamara Heck:
“Hello, I’m Tamara, a PhD student at the Department of Information Science at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf in Germany. My research topic is about recommender systems, which support academics and scientific researchers in building up their scientific network and community of practice and finding relevant collaboration partners. I’m working at the Department as a lecturer and give courses in information retrieval, knowledge representation and career planning as information scientist.
As the ESC secretary/treasurer I’m doing all the bureaucratic stuff like writing the annual chapter report. And I hope I can support Agnes and Evelyn in realizing their ideas and activities for the ESC in the upcoming year. Furthermore I’d like to get to know more students and colleagues from the library and information science field and get them involved in the ESC to foster collaboration among us.”
Tomislav Jakopec:
“Hi, I graduated Information systems at Faculty of Organization and Informatics, Varaždin, University of Zagreb.
I am a PhD student of Knowledge society and information transfer at University of Zadar, Department of Library and Information Science. I have five years of experience in ICT firm, working on jobs: modeling, programming, running and maintaining of business information system for medium and large companies. My research interest is in information system modeling, web technologies, electronic publishing and ebook aggregators.
As webmaster I will support all demands that come from the Board members”
Though, we are not the Fantastic Four and saving the world, we like to invite all of you to participate and collaborate with us and to simply have a great year. If you have any ideas concerning the ESC which you would like to share with us, please let us know and we will try to make the best of it.
We are glad that we could look back at a successful past year of the ESC and see what amazing things Tamara and her team have achieved. We will keep on doing what you have started!

… to organise ESC meetings at ASIS&T Events
… to address more bachelor and master students
What’s new? Since this week we have our own YouTube channel, where we may add our videos. Actually, there are two videos from the last webinar on the channel, which you also may find on our website. We would like to put more videos on this channel. ESC videos, for example, could be short presentations or reports about workshops, conferences or meetings, which are interesting for students and which are related to library and information science. If you have any ideas, we like to invite you to contact us or to send us your video, which we could upload to our channel.
Regarding our newsletter, we also like to invite you to send us reports and announcements about workshops or conferences or other interesting things you like to share with other European students. The next newsletter will be edited by Evelyn Dröge and will be published in December or January. Please contact her, if you like to write something for the newsletter or if you have an idea what the next newsletter should cover.
