ASIS&T has confirmed our keynote speakers for our 2017 Annual Meeting (AM17).
Dr. Richard Marks, Senior Research Engineer and Head of the PlayStation Magic Lab at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Magic Lab, which sits under the Research & Development group, was founded by Marks to push the boundaries of play by investigating how technology can be used to create new entertainment experiences. His areas are augmented reality and virtual reality. Marks received a Bachelor of Science in Avionics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a doctorate in the field of underwater robotics from Stanford University. Learn more about Dr. Marks.

William Powers began his career as a U.S. Senate staff member working on foreign relations, intelligence and military affairs. He then joined the Washington Post as a staff writer in the 1990s. He is the author of “Hamlet’s Blackberry: A Practical Philosophy for Building a Good Life in the Digital Age” which has been widely praised for its insights on the digital future. The bestseller discusses why it is important to create technology-free “Walden zones” in our homes, and how to lead healthy lives in a digitally connected world. He is a two-time winner of the National Press Club’s Rowse Award for best American media commentary. In 2014, Powers joined the MIT Media Lab as a research scientist at the Laboratory for Social Machines, where he is developing new technologies for journalism, governance and the public sphere.
