2017 Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award Recipient Announced
SILVER SPRING, MD – The Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) announces that Dr. Michael Twidale is the recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize the unique teaching contribution of an individual as a teacher of information science. The award is sponsored by Clarivate Analytics.
Applications are judged on 1) evidence of sustained and unique contributions to teaching information science; 2) impact on students, colleagues, and institutions, 3) innovative and imaginative teaching materials and methods; 4) professional association activities related to teaching excellence; 5) research activities related to teaching excellence; and 6) previous teaching awards.
Dr. Twidale, professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been recognized for his innovative teaching methods that help explain highly technical material to students accommodating both online and hybrid environments. Virginia Dressler, Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award Jury Chair, said “Dr. Twidale also shows accomplishments in the field with a long record of scholarship in extensive publication, grants and other intellectual avenues.”
Dr. Twidale said “I am thrilled to receive this award from my professional association. It is an honor to be recognized for my efforts in developing innovative methods to engage and inspire students.“
The award of a $1,000 check, sponsored by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters), will be presented at the ASIS&T 2017 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Additionally, Clarivate Analytics contributes $500 towards travel or other expenses to the recipient, contingent upon the recipient’s attending the ASIS&T annual meeting.
