Student Chapter of the Year
The European Student Chapter has been chosen as the winner of the ASIS&T 2017 Student Chapter of the Year Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding student chapters for the participation in, and contributions to ASIST&T and the advancement of information science. Chapters are evaluated on membership (20%), activities (25%), collaboration (5%), communications (20%), financial (10%), awards and honors (5%) and administration (15%).
The ASIST&T Student Chapter of the Year committee indicated that the European student chapter demonstrated exceptional organizational skills in coordinating events and connecting ASIS&T members across multiple countries and continents. Last year, the Chapter offered presentations, workshops, virtual meetings and even a miniBARcamp, an informal get-together aimed at encouraging creating discussions among ASIS&T members and non-members. The Chapter had strong representation at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting, iConference, student conference “SWIF”, and other professional gatherings. They found creative ways to promote ASIS&T and its values and assisted with the development of an Asian Pacific Student Chapter. The European Chapter also continues to pursue its ongoing efforts with good attendance and membership, maintains well-organized internal records and utilizes an arsenal of social media and other tools for its communications.
