SIG of the Year
SIG/Visualization, Images & Sound (SIG/VIS) has been chosen as the winner of the ASIS&T 2017 SIG of the Year Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding professional accomplishments and activities of an ASIS&T Special Interest Group. SIGS are evaluated on a number of criteria, including but not limited to, activities/programs at and outside of the Annual Meeting, collaboration in and outside of ASIS&T, communications, publication(s), information presentation, special projects, and administration.
The ASIS&T SIG of the Year committee indicated that SIG/VIS demonstrated exceptional organizational skills by increasing engagement with their members via two panels, a workshop at the annual meeting and a Virtual Symposium that received numerous hits on YouTube. The SIG has contributed to the advancement of information science by appealing to audiences outside of ASIS&T. Their work on redesigning, expanding and re-branding their website required an extensive review of 23 years of history.
