Joann Cattlin to Receive the 2024 ASIS&T Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Scholarship Award
The Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) is delighted to announce that Joann Cattlin is the recipient of the 2024 Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Scholarship Award. The award’s purpose is to foster research in information science by recognizing the year’s most outstanding doctoral dissertation proposal while encouraging and assisting doctoral students in the field with their dissertation research.
Joann is a PhD Candidate and Research Assistant in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, and Social Change Enabling Impact Platform at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. Her research examines the information behaviour of academics and professional staff undertaking the work involved in enabling the societal impact of research (or impact work) in the context of changing organisational priorities, and increased emphasis on collaboration and innovation practices in academic research. The goal of Joann’s research is to understand the information environments that foster a strong and productive research culture within universities.
In supporting Joann’s application, her PhD supervisor, Dr. Lisa Given said, “Joann is an exceptional emerging scholar who is progressing at a pace within the top 10% of her peers. Not only is she one of the few PhD candidates studying human information behaviour in Australia, but she transitioned from working full-time for several years in professional roles in universities, to conducting her PhD research full-time. This has given her a distinctive perspective on her research topic, which examines the information behaviours underpinning academic and professional staff experiences in conducting and enabling the societal impact of research.”
Upon learning of her selection as winner of the Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Scholarship Award, Joann responded, " I am thrilled to receive the ASIS&T Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Scholarship and very appreciative of the jury’s recognition of my research. This award provides very welcome support for my studies and is a wonderful confidence boost."
Joann will receive the award during the 2024 meeting of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), which will be held 25-29 October 2024 in Calgary, AB Canada.
