Information Science Trends Conference Call for Abstracts
We welcome submissions to the Information Science Trends (IST) conference 2024, scheduled for 8-10th July. Researchers, practitioners and students are invited to participate. This year's conference theme is 'Living online and offline, in darkness and light'. The theme is open to your interpretation but you can find some suggested ideas at the conference webpage: Call for Abstracts: Information Science Trends 2024

Best European Paper and Best European Student Paper Award Celebration
The ASIS&T EU Chapter is hosting an online event to celebrate its inaugural Best European Paper and Best European Student Paper Awards on 20th May, 2024, 14:00 - 15:30 UK time (or 9:00 - 10:30 AM, EDT), on Zoom. This event aims to celebrate the winning papers, and also provide a platform for showcasing the outstanding papers nominated for the awards, and the diverse research from Europe. This event will be chaired by an eminent information scientist, Professor Mike Thelwall.

Europe Student Chapter

As part of the Information Science Trends (IST) Living online and offline, in darkness and light conference, the European Student Chapter (ESC) of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) in collaboration with iSchools are seeking student contributions to an online ThesisIn3 event where students are invited to present their research topics for theses and dissertations in three minutes.

This event is intended to encourage wider student participation in the Information Science field in a fun and inclusive space, allowing students to develop both their confidence and their presentation skills, and to offer their own insights and constructive feedback to their peers. Presentations will be adjudicated by your peers, with multiple prizes including Best Visuals and Best Explanation of Topic, etc.

This event will be run as a video entry competition and you will be able to join virtually via Zoom to ensure as many students as possible can attend. You can register for this event here. Students are encouraged to present their research topics for theses and dissertations within a concise three-minute time-frame. Submissions, accepted in video format, will be eligible for multiple prizes, including Best Visuals and Best Explanation of Topic, etc. Winners will be notified prior to the conference and invited to attend the full IST conference. Their winning video presentations will be showcased during the event, with the ESC announcing the winners. 

Submission requirements:
Students are defined as BA/BSc, MA/MSc, or PhD students within Information Science (including related areas such as Library Science, Archival Science, Data Science, Information Management, Digital Humanities and Human Computer Interaction).

Please submit a short description (max. 5 sentences) of the topic of your (3 minute) presentation via Google Form here.

It is our aim to facilitate the participation of any student who enters a submission, however, submissions will be chosen at random should we receive more submissions than can be presented in the time dedicated to this event.

Midwest Chapter

The ASIS&T Midwest Chapter is now accepting applications for two Annual Meeting travel awards for the 2024 meeting in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from October 25-29, 2024. These awards will cover the cost of registration as well as other expenses up to a total of $1000 towards your attendance at the event. Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2024. Decisions will be made by June 30, 2024, allowing you to register ahead of the early bird deadline. You must be a member of the Midwest Chapter to be eligible for this award. US Northeast Chapter

The Northeast Chapter of ASIS&T is offering three conference support awards to support participation in the ASIS&T 2024 Annual Meeting. The awards will go to practitioners/professionals or graduate students in the field of information science. Our goals are to support scholarship and connect research and practice, bringing new voices to the chapter.

Each award will support your year-long membership in ASIS&T as well as your conference registration for the 2024 ASIS&T Annual Meeting; enrollment fees for pre/post-meeting workshops and tutorials may also be covered in whole, or in part, up to the award limit. The award will come in the form of a reimbursement with submission of receipts after the conclusion of the ASIS&T Annual Meeting. There is a reimbursement limit of $1000 for each award.

The Annual Meeting will be focused on the theme of "Putting People First: Responsibility, Reciprocity, and Care in Information Research and Practice." For more information, you can visit the annual meeting webpage.

Applicants must be either current graduate students (current students in their last semester of their program are still eligible), practitioners or educators in the field of information science at the time of their application and living and/or working in the Northeast region (ME, NH, NY, NJ, VT, MA, RI, CT, DE, MD, PA, or Washington, DC). We define information science broadly: librarians, archivists, data/knowledge managers, information architects, web developers, etc., are all encouraged to apply.  Previous NEASIS&T Conference Support Award recipients are not eligible.

Applicants are not required to be current NEASIS&T members. Awardees are also invited to join the NEASIS&T programming committee, but there is no obligation to join. Recipients are, however, expected to participate in the following NEASIS&T activities in 2024-2025 as Terms of Award:

  • Share your conference experience with the NEASIS&T chapter via a blog post due December 1, 2024.

  • Share your conference experience at a NEASIS&T Annual Experience Report event (held in November or December, virtually).

Remember, submission of receipts documenting membership and conference registration expenses is required for reimbursement.

*If the winner is unable to meet all of the terms due to a relocation, NEASIS&T should be notified immediately.
**If the winner cannot attend the 2024 ASIS&T Annual Meeting, they will forfeit the entirety of the award.
