Rigorous Learning: An Introduction to the Ohio Learning Standards and 21st Century Skills
The Ohio Learning Standards include the Common Core standards and promote college and career readiness, K-12. The new Ohio Learning Standards also include a mandated Third Grade Reading Guarantee, a demand for higher graduation rates, and higher requirements for college admission. Ohio teachers and librarians face state and national changes which call for an increased focus on research, literacy, text complexity and rigorous learning. This session is an introduction to the standards and will include definitions of important terms used in the standards such as text complexity and academic vocabulary. The requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee will be outlined. There will be a brief overview of the INFOhio resources available to help students, teachers, and librarians meet the standards. (The 7:00 session will go into more depth about the resources and allow for some hands-on experience if you bring your own device.)
7:00 to 8:00
